The Múcuras: Ancestral Vessels of Water in the Bacatá Collection

In the history of pre-Columbian peoples, every object was more than just a tool: it was a symbol, a tradition, and part of daily life. Such is the case of the múcuras, pieces that are part of the Bacatá Collection by 6 Herencias. Inspired by the Muisca culture, these vessels represent the connection with water and the way this community built its environment in balance with nature.

The Muisca people, ancestral inhabitants of the highlands of Cundinamarca and Boyacá in Colombia, built their villages using local materials such as cane, clay, and wood. In this context, the múcuras played a fundamental role: they were clay vessels used to store and carry water. More than simple containers, these objects reveal the profound relationship between community and territory, reminding us that life revolved around the care and availability of this vital resource.

Within the Bacatá Collection, we reinterpret the figure of the múcura as a symbol of origin, abundance, and learning. Each piece of jewelry takes inspiration from the rounded and organic shapes of these ancient vessels, transforming them into contemporary amulets that preserve the essence of tradition. By wearing a jewel inspired by the múcura, you carry with you a fragment of history that speaks of resilience, balance, and respect for nature.

Beyond their practical use, the múcuras represent a legacy that transcends the material. They were part of daily life in Muisca households, accompanied community rituals, and bore witness to how indigenous peoples lived in harmony with water, the source of life and energy. Today, reinterpreted in recycled silver and plated in 24k gold, they become a bridge between past and present, reminding us of the importance of honoring our roots while building a sustainable future.

The Bacatá Collection not only recovers an ancestral symbol but also invites reflection: just as the Muisca cared for water and the land, today we are called to recognize the value of what is essential. The múcuras, in their simplicity, remind us that true wealth lies in what connects us to life itself.

Exploring the múcuras of the Bacatá Collection is opening a dialogue between pre-Columbian history and contemporary design, carrying with you a jewel that not only adorns but also teaches and protects.
