About this piece: Our masks are part of the RENACER (Reborn) cycles. La “Abuela” (the grandmother) is the phase of wisdom, she is an extraction of my grandmothers (creator) and has the alignment of my birth along with the wisdom that they provided to my parents. For the Kamëntšá community, the “mamitas” are the matrix and for 6 Herencias the beginning of each genealogical line.

The Abuela Mask Earrings by 6 Herencias reinterpret pre-Columbian jewelry through a contemporary lens. These pieces pay homage to the Kamëntsá grandmothers — guardians of wisdom, storytellers, and keepers of ancestral memory.

In Kamëntsá tradition, grandmothers are seen as carriers of knowledge: women who teach through their words, their hands, and their example. Inspired by this vision, the design was born from the fusion of two faces — a symbolic mutation between my two grandmothers — representing the duality of origin, feminine strength, and the inheritance of knowledge.

Each mask tells a story. Its shape echoes ancient ceremonial masks while embracing a modern aesthetic. The Abuela Mask Earrings are crafted from recycled silver and finished with 24k gold plating, combining noble materials with timeless design. The result is a piece that honors memory while transforming it into contemporary art.
